1995 "Its only the beginning" A young Aussie Cricketer purchased his first cricket bat from Sommers founder John Rennie (JR) in August 1995. Little did the youngster know that he was the first person to actually purchase a Sommers bat and at that time, little did Sommers founder know how his own cricket brand would develop into a boutique brand respected around the world. At the time JR commented "It's only the beginning".

That initial bat sale was one of the first 20 made for JR by a well know bat maker more for fun than profit. With a passion for both cricket and everything the sport stood for, Rennie saw an opportunity to do something in cricket that others might only dream about. "Let's set up a small cricket company and call it Sommers and if things don't work out, we'll have more than a little fun doing something we really will enjoy." he said. For John Rennie at that time it was an adventure and a search, a search for perfection in cricket knowing all too well that in sport perfection is a dream.

Rennie was well aware that far too many sub standard products were being marketed by the large cricket companies with the end margin being their driving force. He wanted something better, something different. Largely inspired by a good friend and world renowned bat maker Julian Millichamp (UK), John set out to create a more personal approach to Cricket Equipment, and in doing so embarked on an adventure that would bring excitement and fun to his life, his family, his friends but more importantly impact in a positive manner on the game he loves so much.

There is no doubt that the Sommers team along with it's founder have learnt a great deal about what cricketers really want these days. The market is changing rapidly with both improvements and innovations and Sommers is in there doing what it can to make things better but at the same time different. While all at Sommers still strive to make perfect cricket gear, the passion still exists for everything that is cricket.
